Every clinic offers a guarantee and almost none of them mean the same thing. The word covers everything from a written commitment with defined terms to a verbal reassurance that evaporates when something goes wrong.

The questions that matter are narrow and specific: what exactly is covered, for how long, what voids it, and what practically happens when you are two thousand kilometres away. A guarantee that cannot answer those four is a marketing phrase rather than a commitment.

This page sets out what our guarantee covers and — equally important — what it does not. Some things in dentistry cannot honestly be guaranteed, and a clinic that claims otherwise is either misunderstanding the biology or overselling.

What a Guarantee Can and Cannot Cover

This distinction is the whole subject, and it is where most disputes come from. A dental guarantee sensibly covers two things: the materials used, and the workmanship applied to them.

If a crown fractures under normal use, that is a materials or workmanship question and it is covered. If a bridge debonds because the fit was inadequate, same. If a restoration was made to the wrong shade or contour, same again.

What cannot be guaranteed is biology. Whether bone integrates around an implant, whether a nerve survives preparation, whether gum tissue heals in the expected position — these depend on the patient's healing, health and habits as much as on the treatment. No clinic controls them and none should promise them.

Nor can a result that is maintained rather than permanent be guaranteed indefinitely. Whitening fades and is topped up. Composite bonding stains and is polished. A denture is relined as the ridge changes underneath it. Those are maintenance schedules by nature, not failures of workmanship.

The same logic applies to orthodontics. An aligner or brace plan sets out the movement it is designed to achieve, though the biological response and the wear time it depends on are not things any clinic can guarantee; it cannot be guaranteed to stay that way if the retainer is not worn, because teeth drift throughout life. Retention is part of the treatment rather than an optional extra afterwards.

What We Cover

Our restorative work carries a lifetime guarantee on materials and workmanship. In practice that means the following.

  • Crowns, bridges and veneers. If the restoration fractures, debonds or fails structurally under normal use, we remake it.
  • Implant fixtures. If an implant fails to integrate or is lost through no fault of maintenance, it is replaced.
  • Implant-supported restorations. The crown or bridge on top, on the same basis as any other restoration.
  • Fillings and bonded restorations. Structural failure under normal use.
  • Fit and finish. A restoration that does not seat correctly, contacts wrongly, or was made to the wrong specification.

The commitment is to put right what we made. That is the honest scope of any guarantee in dentistry, and it is what a patient is actually buying when a clinic offers one.

One thing worth stating because patients ask: the guarantee follows the work, not the appointment. If a crown made three years ago fails structurally, it is covered on the same terms as one made last month. "Lifetime" means the life of the restoration rather than a period counted from the invoice date.

It also covers work that is remade under the guarantee. A replacement crown carries the same cover as the original — otherwise the guarantee would quietly expire the first time it was used, which is not a guarantee at all.

What It Does Not Cover

Being explicit about exclusions is more useful than a broad promise, and every clinic in the world has these whether or not they are stated.

  • Accidental damage. A blow to the face, biting something hard, an accident. This is what insurance is for, not a treatment guarantee.
  • Neglect. Decay at a crown margin from inadequate cleaning, or bone loss around an implant from untreated gum disease.
  • Missed maintenance. Not attending the recommended check-ups. This is the condition most often breached and the one that matters most.
  • Untreated contributing conditions. Continuing to grind without wearing the protective appliance provided, or continuing to smoke where that was identified as a risk.
  • Biological outcomes. Healing, nerve response, tissue position — influenced by treatment but not controlled by it.
  • Consumable and maintained results. Whitening shade, composite polish, denture relines. These have maintenance intervals rather than failure points.
  • Work done elsewhere. Including work we adjust or build onto.

The Conditions Attached

Two conditions apply to everything above, and they are not administrative formalities.

Attend the recommended check-ups. The interval is set from your own risk rather than a standard six months. This matters most for implants, because inflammation around an implant is painless at the start and reversible while it is confined to the gum. Once bone has been lost it can usually be stabilised, but not restored — which is why the early check-ups matter more than they feel like they should.

Follow the aftercare given. Wearing a protective appliance where grinding is present, cleaning under a bridge with a threader, using interdental brushes around implants. These are the specific instructions that determine whether the work lasts.

Neither condition is unusual — every reputable clinic applies them, and insurers apply stricter ones. What varies is whether they are stated openly beforehand or produced from small print afterwards. We would rather set them out here.

There is a third condition that applies only in specific cases: where a contributing factor was identified and a treatment provided for it, using that treatment is part of the aftercare. The clearest example is a protective appliance for grinding — restorations destroyed by unmanaged nocturnal force are a predictable outcome rather than a manufacturing fault, and the appliance exists precisely to prevent it.

The same logic applies to untreated gum disease around implants. Where periodontal treatment was recommended and declined, bone loss that follows is not a failure of the implant.

How the Guarantee Works From Outside Türkiye

This is the practical question for international patients and the one most clinics answer vaguely.

For most issues, the first step is remote. Photographs and a description are usually enough to identify whether something is a genuine failure, a maintenance matter, or something requiring urgent local attention. That assessment costs nothing and often resolves the question.

Where physical work is required and the issue is covered, the treatment is carried out without charge on your next visit. Where a problem is urgent and you cannot travel, we will help you find local treatment and discuss the situation with the treating dentist if that helps.

What no clinic can honestly promise is to cover another dentist's fees in another country. Any clinic offering that should be asked exactly how it works in practice, because the mechanism rarely exists. How follow-up is arranged covers the practical side in more detail.

It is worth keeping copies of everything: your treatment plan, radiographs taken before and after, and the record of which implant system was used. If you ever need work done elsewhere — or want a second opinion — those documents are what make it straightforward rather than guesswork. Ask for them at the end of treatment rather than requesting them later.

What that looks like in practice varies by where you live, mostly because of who does the assessing. Patients in the UK and Ireland can usually have a problem examined locally and the notes sent to us within days. From Australia or Canada the photograph stage does more of the work, which is why the records you leave with are more detailed for long-haul patients.

What to Ask Any Clinic

These questions apply wherever in the world you are treated, and the answers distinguish a real commitment from a slogan.

  1. Is the guarantee in writing, and can I see it before treatment?
  2. What exactly is covered — the fixture, the restoration, or both?
  3. For how long, and does the period differ by treatment?
  4. What specifically voids it?
  5. What is the maintenance requirement, and how is it recorded?
  6. What happens if I cannot travel back?
  7. Does it cover the laboratory work as well as the clinical work?
  8. What if the clinic changes ownership or closes?

The last one is uncomfortable and worth asking anyway. A guarantee is only as durable as the practice behind it, and a clinic with a long trading history is offering something different from one that opened last year.

Two more worth adding when the treatment involves implants specifically: which implant system is being used, and whether its components will still be manufactured in fifteen years. An implant from a discontinued system can be sound in the bone and still unrestorable, because no matching parts exist. Why brand choice matters covers this, and it is a question no guarantee answers.

Guarantee Versus Realistic Lifespan

These two are frequently conflated in marketing and they are not the same thing.

What is guaranteed versus how long things last
Guarantee coversTypical lifespan
Implant fixtureIntegration and structural failureDecades with maintenance
Crown or bridgeFracture, debonding, fitLong, limited by the tooth beneath
VeneerFracture, debonding, fitMany years with protection
Composite bondingStructural failureSeveral years, then repolished or replaced
DentureFit and manufactureRelined periodically as the ridge changes
WhiteningNot applicableMaintained result, topped up
OrthodonticsAppliance and treatmentStable while a retainer is worn

The last two rows are where honest clinics and marketing part company. A whitening result cannot be guaranteed for life because it is not a permanent state, and orthodontic alignment relapses without retention regardless of how well the treatment was carried out. Saying so is not weakening the guarantee; it is describing what a guarantee is for.

The table also shows what to compare when weighing one clinic against another. A five-year warranty and a lifetime guarantee are not the same offer, and the difference is real — but length only tells you something once you have read the scope beside it. A clinic willing to state both plainly in writing, and to keep the commitment open for as long as you have the work, is telling you how it expects that work to last.

Why Maintenance Is the Real Condition

Of everything on this page, the maintenance requirement is the clause most often breached and the one that costs patients most.

The pattern is consistent. A patient has extensive work completed, returns home delighted, and does not see a dentist for four years because nothing hurts. In that time, gum disease progresses silently around an implant, or decay develops at a crown margin. Both were treatable at year one and are not at year four.

This is not a technicality invented to avoid claims. It is the actual mechanism by which good dental work fails. An implant does not fail because the titanium was faulty; it fails because bacteria were left to work around it for years.

The practical implication for anyone treated abroad is to arrange a local dentist for routine maintenance before you travel rather than afterwards. Finding someone comfortable with implant maintenance is easier done unhurried, and the records they keep are what support any later claim.

How a Guarantee Claim Actually Works

The process should be simple, and knowing it in advance removes most of the anxiety.

  1. Contact us as soon as you notice. Early problems are smaller problems, and delay is the main thing that turns a repair into a replacement.
  2. Send photographs. Clear images of the area, and a recent radiograph if you have one. Most issues can be categorised remotely.
  3. We assess and tell you honestly. Whether it is covered, whether it is urgent, and whether it needs local attention before you can travel.
  4. Urgent problems are stabilised locally. Pain, swelling or infection should not wait for a flight.
  5. Covered work is redone on your next visit. At no charge for the treatment itself.

What matters more than the wording of any guarantee is whether a clinic responds when contacted. That is worth researching in reviews before treatment, because it is the part no document can promise. How to read patient reviews critically is covered separately.

When a Guarantee Is Worth Paying For

A lifetime guarantee is a genuine commitment and it costs the clinic offering it something real. It says the practice expects its work to last and is willing to stand behind that for as long as you have it. When you are choosing between clinics, it belongs firmly in the comparison.

What it does not do is replace a proper assessment, and the strongest position is having both. A guarantee protects you if something fails. A thorough assessment beforehand reduces the chance of ever needing it — and covers decisions a guarantee cannot reach.

The reason is that some decisions are irreversible by nature. A guarantee will remake a crown that fractures. It cannot restore enamel removed from a healthy tooth that was prepared for a bridge when an implant was possible, or reverse veneers placed on teeth that needed alignment first. Those are planning decisions, made once.

So the questions worth asking cover both: what the warranty covers, and what was assessed before the plan was proposed. What imaging was taken, which alternatives were considered, and why this option was chosen over the more conservative one.

A clinic that answers both — a long guarantee and a documented reasoning behind the plan — is giving you two different kinds of protection. What to check before choosing a clinic goes through the assessment side in more depth.

The same applies to timing decisions. A guarantee will remake a crown that was colour-matched before whitening and now looks wrong — but the remake costs a trip. Getting the sequence right the first time, as trip planning sets out, avoids the situation entirely.

How We Handle It

Our terms are given in writing before treatment, not produced afterwards. They state what is covered, the maintenance requirement, and the exclusions listed above in plain language.

We record what was done and which materials were used, so that any later question can be answered from a file rather than from memory. That record is also what a local dentist needs if they ever treat you — implant systems differ, and components must match.

Where something is not covered, we say so directly and explain why, rather than declining without a reason. Where it is covered, it is remade without argument.

Our clinic has treated patients from more than thirty countries over twelve years, which means the arrangements for treating someone who lives elsewhere are routine rather than exceptional. If you are weighing clinics, ask each of them the eight questions above and compare the answers rather than the adjectives.

We also give you copies of your records at the end of treatment rather than on request: the plan, the radiographs, and which implant system was used. Those are what a local dentist needs, and what supports any later claim. Patients who have to chase their own records months later are in a worse position than they should be.

What a Guarantee Is Worth When the Clinic Is Abroad

A guarantee matters more, not less, when the clinic is in another country — and it is the single thing most likely to be described vaguely in a Turkish quote. The reason is structural rather than sinister. Most dental-tourism guarantees were written to close a sale, so they are long on duration and short on mechanism: they say five years, or ten, and say nothing about who assesses a problem, who pays for the flight, or what happens if the clinic has changed hands by then.

Ours runs for life, on materials and workmanship, in writing, with the exclusions stated plainly — and the mechanism is written down alongside the term. If something we made fails because of the material or the way it was made, we remake it. You send photographs first, and where the problem can be assessed that way it is; where it cannot, you come back and the clinical work is not charged. What is not covered is stated in the same document rather than discovered later: accidental damage, neglect, smoking-related implant failure, and problems arising from missed check-ups or from aftercare that was not followed.

The İstanbul-specific question you should ask any clinic here, this one included, is how long it has been trading under the same name and the same ownership. A lifetime guarantee from a clinic that opened last year is a sentence rather than an undertaking. We have been in Bağcılar for twelve years and have treated patients from more than thirty countries in that time, which is the only evidence that means anything on this point — not the wording of the promise, but the number of years there has been somebody to hold to it.

The second question is what your own dentist at home is being asked to do. Nothing, in our arrangement. A guarantee that quietly depends on your home dentist agreeing to carry out remedial work at no charge is not a guarantee; it is a hope. How the practical side is handled is set out separately.

What Insurance Does and Does Not Do

Patients frequently assume a guarantee and insurance overlap. They cover almost exactly opposite things, and understanding the division prevents an unpleasant surprise.

A guarantee covers failure of what was made — a fracture, a debond, an implant that does not integrate. It does not cover accidents, because a blow to the face is not a manufacturing fault.

Accident and travel insurance covers exactly that: damage from an external event. What most policies do not cover is elective treatment abroad, and many exclude complications arising from it. If you are travelling for treatment, read the policy wording specifically for that exclusion rather than assuming.

The gap between the two is worth knowing about before you need it. A restoration damaged by an accident falls outside the guarantee and may also fall outside a policy that excludes treatment abroad — which is a reason to ask both questions in advance rather than at the point of claim. It is also one more argument for wearing a protective appliance where grinding was identified, since damage from unmanaged grinding sits in neither category.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does your guarantee actually cover?
The materials and workmanship of what we make: crowns, bridges, veneers, implant fixtures and the restorations on them, and fillings. If something fractures, debonds or fails structurally under normal use, we remake it. The commitment is to put right what we made.
What voids the guarantee?
Accidental damage, neglect, missing the recommended check-ups, and continuing an untreated condition you were asked to address — such as grinding without wearing the appliance provided. These conditions are standard across the profession; we state them openly rather than in small print.
Why isn't whitening covered?
Because it is a maintained result rather than a permanent state. Teeth re-stain according to habits, and the result is topped up rather than repaired. Guaranteeing it for life would be promising something that does not exist in the biology, which is not a guarantee worth having.
Do I have to fly back if something goes wrong?
Not for the assessment. Photographs and a description are usually enough to establish whether it is a genuine failure, a maintenance matter, or something urgent. Where physical work is needed and it is covered, it is done at no charge on your next visit.
What if I cannot travel and it is urgent?
Urgent problems — pain, swelling, infection — should be treated locally rather than waiting for a flight. We will help you find local treatment and discuss the situation with the treating dentist. No clinic can honestly promise to cover another dentist's fees in another country.
Is a lifetime guarantee realistic?
On materials and workmanship, yes — it is a commitment to remake what we made if it fails structurally. On biological outcomes and maintained results, no clinic anywhere can honestly offer it. The distinction between the two is what makes the guarantee meaningful rather than decorative.
How often do I need check-ups to keep it valid?
The interval is set from your own risk rather than a fixed rule — implants and a history of gum disease shorten it. What matters is that the appointments happen and are recorded. This is the condition most often breached and the one that causes most avoidable failures.
Can I have my check-ups with a local dentist?
Yes, and for patients living abroad that is the practical arrangement. Keep the records, because they are what supports any later claim. Arranging a local dentist before you travel rather than afterwards is worth doing, particularly for implant maintenance. Ask them to send us a copy of any radiographs so the record stays complete.
Does the guarantee cover the laboratory work?
Yes. From the patient's side there is no useful distinction between clinical and laboratory work — both are part of the restoration we provide. It is worth asking this of any clinic, because some guarantees are drafted to exclude the laboratory component.
What if the clinic closes?
An uncomfortable question and a fair one. A guarantee is only as durable as the practice behind it, which is why trading history is relevant when comparing clinics. Ours has operated for twelve years and treated patients from more than thirty countries.
Is the guarantee in writing?
Yes, and it is given before treatment rather than afterwards. Any clinic that offers a guarantee verbally but will not put the terms in writing beforehand is offering something you cannot rely on, wherever in the world it is. Read the exclusions section particularly, since that is where the meaningful differences between clinics appear.
What happens if an implant fails after ten years?
It is assessed first, because the cause determines what follows. Failure through no fault of maintenance is covered. Failure driven by untreated gum disease or missed check-ups is not, and that is stated openly at the outset rather than discovered at the point of claim.
Does grinding affect my cover?
It affects it if you were provided with a protective appliance and do not wear it. Grinding is the commonest reason restorations fail early, and the appliance is part of the treatment rather than an accessory. Wearing it keeps the cover intact.
Is a longer guarantee a sign of a better clinic?
It is a real signal — a practice willing to stand behind its work for as long as you have it is committing to something that costs it money. Read the scope alongside the length, and look at the assessment too: the strongest position is a clinic that gives a lifetime guarantee and can explain why it chose your particular plan.
Do you charge for guarantee work?
Not for the treatment itself where it is covered. Travel and accommodation remain yours, as they would with any clinic anywhere. Where something falls outside the cover, we explain why rather than simply declining, and quote it as ordinary treatment.
